“To My Valentine? by Ogden Nash
More than a catbird hates a cat,
Or a criminal hates a clue,
Or the Axis hates the United States,
That’s how much I love you.
I love you more than a duck can swim,
And more than a grapefruit squirts,
I love you more than a gin rummy is a bore,
And more than a toothache hurts.
As a shipwrecked sailor hates the sea,
Or a juggler hates a shove,
As a hostess detests unexpected guests,
That’s how much you I love.
I love you more than a wasp can sting,
And more than the subway jerks,
I love you as much as a beggar needs a crutch,
And more than a hangnail irks.
I swear to you by the stars above,
And below, if such there be,
As the High Court loathes perjurious oathes,
That’s how you’re loved by me.
“ Some things you can feel coming. You don’t fall in love because you fall in love; you fall in love because of the need, desperate, to fall in love. When you feel that need, you have to watch your step: like having drunk a philter, the kind that makes you fall in love with the first thing you meet. It could be a duck-billed platypus. ”

Article “Lessons in Love, by Way of Economics”
Witty, interesting article. I have had the opportunity to hear Ben Stein speak and he is so SO smart and very straightforward. I wish he was my friend!

Funny - such a simple statement - and one would probably assume it’s about love, but you don’t know to what feeling the writer is referring. It could be applied to the positive or the negative and I like that lack of specific diretion.
My first thought (of course) was about love. Why is this always so hard to communicate? And why does that last sliver of doubt always seem exist? I can forget about that doubt - sometimes for months at a time - but then I remember. Sometimes when I am the most happy with you! I think it might be because I am so happy, and I love that feeling, and I never want it to go away. That’s when the doubt comes back. But then I forget it again for a while.
“
You can be happy tomorrow. You can be happy when you get through your list of things to do. You can be happy when you meet the one. You can be happy when you get the right job. You can be happy when you get that raise. You can be happy when you stop buying the things you need and start buying the things you want. You can be happy when you retire. You can be happy when the weather suits you. You can be happy on a plane. You can be happy in the rain.
Or you can stop reading this, take a deep breath, and be happy right now.

Fantastic.
Being broken doesn’t make it any less delicious!
“ I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion -
I have shudder’d at it.
I shudder no more.
I could be martyr’d for my religion
Love is my religion
And I could die for that.
I could die for you. ”

I like women who haven’t lived with too many men.
I don’t expect virginity but I simply prefer women
who haven’t been rubbed raw by experience.
there is a quality about women who choose
men sparingly;
it appears in their walk
in their eyes
in their laughter and in their
gentle hearts.
women who have had too many men
seem to choose the next one
out of revenge rather than with
feeling.
when you play the field selfishly everything
works against you:
one can’t insist on love or
demand affection.
you’re finally left with whatever
you have been willing to give
which often is:
nothing.
some women are delicate things
some women are delicious and
wondrous.
if you want to piss on the sun
go ahead
but please leave them
alone.

Hmm. I like the feel of this a whole lot.

interesting… so much is lost when one becomes jaded - more than you’d ever even think about
I don't want a hopeless romantic
I just want a romantic.
I want to be with a guy who loves being in love with me as much as I love being in love with him! Who appreciates the little things I do for him that show him how in love with him I am, and who likes to do things that show me that he is truely in love with me. I’m not looking for over the top gush… I just want someone who will go out of his way to show me that I am not being taken for granted. Am I asking for too much?
